Logger data packet contains...

Post by kb58 »

Some aftermarket flat-dash setups have interfaces to various ECUs, including the KPro. I'm having an issue where I see data coming out of the KPro at 9600 baud, but don't see anything coming out of the ECU interface. In order to narrow down where the problem is, can Hondata please confirm what data in present in the PRB data packet? Here's the flat-dash mfg's understanding:
HONDATA K–SERIES ECU
The Hondata K–Series ECU has software selectable 9600 bps or 115200 bps output baud rates. To be compatible with the Race Technology ECU decoder, the ECU must be set to output data at 9600 baud. There are two models of this ECU in common usage, the PRA and PRB. This unit will only work with the PRB ECU.

excellent, thanks. I passed that along to Race Technology for comment.

Has Hondata ever changed the contents of the above packet, or is it fixed per Honda? Just wondering why RT isn't passing all the Hondata through. Is it because they choose not to, or because the packet contents changed?

BTW, I'm impressed that the ECU (or Hondata) knows what gear it's in!

To add closure to this issue, turns out that the data packet coming out of the Honda/Hondata KPro is not RS-232 like virtually all other ECUs. Since the Dash Interface module expects RS-232 explains why it isn't working, but RT does make a unit specifically for the KPro, but sent me the generic one by accident. The correct unit should be on-hand next week so I'm hoping for the best.

It's doing a little division using RPM, VSS, and the gear ratios provided on the Gear Compensation tab :) pretty good workaround, considering the transmission doesn't have a gear sensor.

A graph of the Gear indicator is amusing though if you give it a little too much gas when rev matching.
