I'm at wits end with this so if I'm snippy, sorry. I'm not in the habit of paying this much money for something that doesn't work as advertised.

- 1994 Accord LX Sedan with an H22A turbo, stock ignition, distributor, harness, etc.
- ECU: 37820-P06-A52 with Boost control and VTEC added (problem existed before installation of both)
- I have no consistent connection to the laptop with the engine running, sometimes it's 2 seconds, sometimes 10. Does this at idle.
- HW 0.01, SN 10068, FW 1.04, SW 1.5.2.0
- Tuning laptop is a Dell D400 running XP SP3, 1.4ghz, 1 gig ram, clean install, only used for this

The S300 was professionally installed in a non-vtec ECU and yes J12 was removed. Boost control and VTEC were added later, but I've had this issue from day one.

I'm using the USB cable that was supplied with the S300, routed to the glove box. I've removed my 4554 non-resistor plugs for factory plugs, bought and installed factory Honda cap, rotor, and wires (side note, it's a little silly to ask people to use OEM ignition components on 3,4,5,6,700 horsepower cars).

Running 1.5.2.0 SManager, reloaded the map, etc. etc. Working on a driveability tune and it's IMPOSSIBLE since the laptop won't datalog, shit it won't even monitor parameters while just sitting there idling. Any changes have to be done with the key on, engine off or it'll really jack the tune.

The only way to get it to work is to remove the USB cable from the laptop, and put it back in, then you get another 5-10 seconds, then SMan locks up again. Says "Online" but it's not, you can select and de-select Datalog and while the status changes at the bottom nothing changes. I don't see how EM interference can be the issue because it does this just sitting idling in the shop. Won't shut down key on engine off, but there's little to no data at that point (ELD, V, TPS)

I'm not sold on the EM interference theory because we have another POS laptop at the dyno that works PERFECT with this car. I'm leaning toward a data stream failure.

Are we sure the S300 is USB 2.0 compliant? Also, the USB drivers for the S300 show a build date of 3/13/2008 on version 2.4.6.0, why were time travelers writing drivers for this?

If another laptop works perfectly, then it is not a problem with the s300, but a problem with the laptop and it being much more susceptible to interference. How are you powering the laptop?

I've tried:

- just the laptop battery
- ac adapter in the wall
- ac adapter to a power inverter in the car
- ac adapter in the wall - plugged into a docking station
- ac adapter to a power inverter in the car - plugged into a docking station

I even wore a tinfoil hat once. No noticeable effect.
