Can I know whether I can base on just hondata to read and adjust the ignition timing (by adjusting distributor) during idling?

If not, can I know why a lighting gun is still needed? why cannot just read the value in Hondata and adjust the distributor?

use the sync dist feature in the software and sync it to 16 with a timing light and move on with life..

Hmm..i serviced the distributor and put back to the original mark. Only after I removed then i noticed that my distributor is almost to the most advanced point. Surprising no knocking..When i checked the hondata IGN sensor reading, it is at most 22. Any idea is it normal? My compression too low such that even i advanced to the extreme, IGN is 22+ only? i using high comp pistons by the way..

You can only check timing and synch it using a timing light.

Hmm...my concern now is if i advanced to the extreme but engine will not knock..it will be the same if i use a timing gun right? Is there some problem i need to correct before i even start to adjust the ignition timing? I though if advanced to the extreme most engine should start to have some knocking? I recalled when my compression ratio was 9:1, engine will knock if i advanced too much. After i changed to High comp piston, the knocking will not occur
