Sync Set Timing with Adjustable Cam Gears

Post by Muckman »

How does one synchronize Ecu timing with the distributor when cam gears are adjusted? I degreed my intake cam to be -4*. This is outside of the maximum adjustment range of the distributor.

I go to options Set Timing 16*. Advance the distributor to full and check timing on crank pulley is 14*.
So I decrease the Set Timing value to 14* but it retards the Ecu output. Now crank pulley reads about 12* at full dist advance.

Whatever change you make to the cam will be doubled at the crank. The cam turns at half the speed of the crank. Any change you make to the intake cam will have to be immediately compensated for at the distributor.

Setting the ECU timing just locks the advance the ECU sends to whatever you set. This allows you to then use a dial back timing light to match teh distributor to that setting.
