Boost control & PWM output control

Post by B.Burke »

Hello

I have forwarded an email to Support@ hondata.com with my issue and information.>skl, .s3d an some screenshots.

Should i post here or can i be supported via email or Teamviewer.

I have since disabled quick spool and the output then defaults to maximum boost by speed value.

Normally open is correct setting as my wastegate is internal. 0% duty or solenoid deactivated = Actuator spring pressure.
MAC valve is plumbed to suit.

You should be using the normally closed setting. This has to do with the solenoid used and not the type of wastegate you have.

Okay.
I will try this and revert.

The solenoid is normally open also. In deactivated state I can blow directly through it from boosted side to actuator side.

Issue solved.

Set quick spool to 0.5psi activation psi set at 2psi.
Set max boost by speed values all to 100%

Configuration worked with normally open still selected as valve was plumbed normally open.

Thanks for the assistance regardless.

That's still wrong. You need to select maximum boost at 100% duty cycle.
You should have wastegate actuator plumbed to port #2, and boost source plumbed to port #3. Port #1 should be left open.
Anything different than the above is wrong, and will not work correctly.

Also, the reason you had different PWM than commanded is likely because of the air temp compensations.

Hey B.Burke. I've had the same issue. Mac 3 port solenoid to control internal waste gate with 4.5 lbs spring. Plumbed normally open with port 1 open to air, port 2 to internal wastegate actuator and port 3 to compressor out. It was working great with Innovative SCG-1 Wideband with boost control. I decided to control boost with s300 v3 so I could boost by gear because I couldn't keep the wheels on the ground in 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

So I added the proper components in my p28 ECU to control boost with pin A11. Set activation pressure at 1 PSI and fixed duty at 30% and 31Hz. Put boost cut at 20 PSI to keep that from getting in the way.

Using the Test Output feature for PWM for 30% duty and 31 Hz (set activation pressure to -1 PSI for the test) I could hear solenoid making noise with ignition on but engine not running. All good so far so I put activation pressure back to 1 PSI.

I did a test drive but all I could get was about 4 lbs boost from the internal wastegate spring. I monitored PWM with datalog and saw it go to 99% at 1 PSI activation pressure but the solenoid wasn't increase boost pressure.

While driving the car, I engaged the Test Output for PWM at 30% duty and 31 Hz. Sure enough I got 30% PWM when datalogging.

CHANGED QUICK SPOOL TO 0.5 PSI FOR ALL GEARS. THAT FIXED IT! Got 30% PWM reading when doing test pulls. Woohoo! Thanks

One question though.....

Did you get Quick Spool working? I've got some work to do on getting boost by gear correct and haven't messed with it yet. Thanks again
