so i do the same thing with the resistor and the jumper, but i also CUT the NEP wire? speaking of which, i really don't wanna cut the stock harness much as i want to be able to put the stock ecu back in if ever necessary. but if i must, i must
If you don't want to cut the nep wire. I think you can remove it from the connector. I removed mine but it was in the Obd1. I used a needle to remove it.
This is basicly the reason I sold my J&S. Tach wouldnt work for me so I sold it while it was worth something. Not a bad unit, but having a working tach was more important to me. (I also tried the resistor trick, it didnt seem to help either.)

Ok stupid Its a J&S Safeguard, basicly an individual cyl knock timing control. It uses its own knock sensor to retard timing on a per cyl basis from what it "hears" and the severity of it. Not a bad device to have if your still tuning or have an "on the edge" type setup or even just want an extra measure of safety.
As the other person said a little more eloquently:
1. cut the NEP wire on your stock harness
2. tape off the NEP wire that connects to the ecu
3. wire the side that goes into the car(not the ecu side) into the ECM wire after it passes through the J&S
4. start car and watch tach work
SUCCESS!! thanks everyone for the help. i cut the NEP wire, then connected the distributor end of the NEP wire to the output of the J&S. works like a charm. a BIIIGG thanks to EVERYONE!!

Glad that it worked, you should have seen me trying to figure it out...called everyone I could think of.
While I'm at it, I'll ask another question about abbreviations. In dealing with turbo's, what is an FMU? Is it some kind of glorified fuel pressure regulator?

Austin
woulda been nice had the guys at hondata told me that the NEP wire is connected again inside the ecu, unlike most OBDII->OBDI harnesses which do not have the NEP wire connected).
