b16a2 (itr cams, 2,5 exhaust, headers and cai)

Post by carlosu » Tue Nov 25, 2014 7:16 am

Hello, first sorry for my english. I hope you understand me.

I have the configuration that the titles says in my car and i'm learning about engine tuning.

The base map is a us-p30, with the timing at idle modificated, the fuel tables modificated too and some parameters (like rpm limit, launch control, etc but not ignition timing compesation for example). So the ignition tables aren't modified.

The problem is that i don't understand the ignition tables because people talk about advance the ignition timing (i supose it is add degrees on tables of the base map) but also i read to people talking that a good timing at wot in this engine (NA) is about 24-28 degrees on max rpm (this mean to pull away degrees on the tables).

If, for example, at 6000 rpm and over (high rpm) in the column 7 (wich is WOT in my case), it appears 32, 34, 34, 33, 33, 33.... it supose that i have to add degrees to that entries for advance the ignition, so the result will be about 35, 37, 38, etc etc but not the 24-28 degrees that people talk about. I'm turning crazy with this, i'm noob in this, i hope you understand.

you shouldnt be column 7 at WOT. 8 maybe, but not 7.

The altitude where i live is almost 1000m, the atmospheric pressure is a little low than a coast place, around 900mbar. The engine is recently rebuilt, so it doesn't worry me. I gonna attach a log.

Definitely need to richen it up, but youre right, 900 mbar isnt crazy. It falls off a little up top, but I think the AFR is more of a concern. Just keep an eye on the spark plugs with that ignition and tune from there or get to a dyno.

if it was me Id add 1* from 5000-6000 and then pull 1-2* from 6k+.

After what rpm's i need to richen up? With the stock p30 ECU without hondata i saw in the afr gauge more or less the same afr's than now... 14's, higher 13's... mid 13's..... and finally lower 13's in high cam.

"The ideal mixture at full load (for a non boosted engine) is a matter of option but generally lambda 0.88-0.92 (air/fuel 13:1 - 13.5:1) produces the most power. Measurement of the mixture is best achieved with a wide band lambda meter."

Personally I don't like to ever go above 13.5 at full load, even on the low cam. You can tell from that graph the car has power left in it.

Ok, so at high rpm's the low 13's are right?? I gonna richen it below 7000rpm and low cam too.
When i saw the stock mixtures without hondata i had installed a plx wideband. What can you tell me about that stock mixtures?
(That afr was without exhaust, without cams, and without headers)

I'm very surprised your stock mixtures were that high before mods. Its likely due to your elevation. Thats the only thing I can think of.

My GSR (viewtopic.php?f=20&t=16050) made best power just under 13:1 AFR on the top end. Its also a lot safer for your vehicle.Though I am pretty close to sea level.

Try this and get me a log.

I lied a little, i had a CAI but only that, the CAI and the altitud can be the reasons.

One thing about the calibration, you have modified the column 8 more than the 7, remember my case.
