Ignition / knock control

hello , please I need an info. by using 0 values in the knock ign limit & knock retard tables will "disable" them, right?

(this is for a race setup so also the knock sensitivity is reduced)

Negative values will Retard
Positive values will advance the ign

Note: If K.Control is 0% the ECU will not Retard or advance ign. I recommend to tune the K20 with disabled knock logic. (Set knock ign Limit low and high = 60)

Additional I can say for S/C and Turbo build the following works very good:
To compensate knocking in hot condition/overheating activate the "Ign IAT Retard applied to ignition advance" setting otherwise in hot condition the ignition will not be reduced and more knocks coming up.

thanks for the info mate!
yes that I intend, to disable the knock control logic, so I put 0 in the limit low and high & knock retard tables.
I also was thinking using / testing with 60 (instead of 0) as you suggest, but I tested with 0 first.

many thanks mate!

here is a test log / 3-rd pull with the tables set to 0. (NA euro FN2)
ignition values are are following what is written on the ign tables , but k control is fixed 55% , ign limit arround 7% and k retard 0.

I will test and report these days with the tables set to 60.

(I`m also using IAT ign compensation / retard.)

also the Euro FN2 oem "factory" calibration idle ignition values are ridiculous ....

nevertheless those very high figures the ecu will dictate -2 deg @ idle...

I wonder why those values are so high. I always tune that area arround 15 - 16 max ign

Hmm... Interesting question.

I am not sure :D
But N/A idle's on table 2+3?
I guess col 1 is for shifting only?

yes, "normal" idle is arround 2 - 3 columns , I just highlighted a bigger area of hi values ign for fast idle too.

ok, I "tested" the car with 60 values on ign limit tables (this is a remote test...)

the kcontrol is still 55%. The ignition values are following the tables , the ign limit is arround 65 deg.

I wonder if that 55% value have some influence on the ignition by retarding it without showing it in the datalog.... the kretard is 0 but who knows..

so, with 0 and 60 the kcontrol is still 55%. how about using - 60 or -100? it will bring it to 0?

this is a 3-run with the ign limits @ 60

on kpro/manager we can use the knock control logic or not...

maybe delete this function from the bin file via Winols ...

If you set 60+ on all tables, the knock logic is disabled.
So k.control will not be adjusted. You can ignore it at this point.

In this setup you can tune perfectly the max ign advance before knock.
- check fuel (AF.corr)
- check knocks
- check dyno-chart for max power

If you are done with ign tuning, you can activate the knock logic to compensate different fuel (octane) qualities.

I recommend to tune it with high octane.

Hope it helps

thanks mate, car is already tuned , I just wanted to know why the 55% kcontrol remains with the system disabled.
usually I get noise from the cams and headers and I don`t want to use this feature. If I suspect real knock I will use stand alone knock detection.

on kpro it works ok, but that`s another ECU .....

thanks again for the info

If all you want to do is disable the effect on ignition timing due to knock detection, set the Knock Retard table(s) to 0. This will effectively ignore the Knock Control % and the other two, MBT and Ignition Limit tables will still operate as intended.

yes I know. increasing the knock sensor sensitivity will do it also.
