FlashPro FK8 Boost Control

Post by leechihfei »

I have some queries on the default data on the flashpro.
My car is a International Version 2017 Type R FK8.

Boost control
1. Air charge limit - what do these numbers mean? (230% is equal to 1.3 bar?)
AirC % 230.0 230.0 230.0 230.0 225.0 216.6 211.5 202.0

2. Turbo Max ratio (PA) - what do these numbers mean?
PA 0.700 0.800 0.850 0.900 0.950 1.000
The values inside the table range between 3.32 to 3.70 - what unit are they in ?

Kind regards,
Lee

Have you read the tuning notes for the FK8 in the help file?

1. The air charge is the calculated cylinder filling. It is close to the absolute manifold pressure. eg 230% = 2.3 bar absolute ~ 1.3 bar boost pressure.

2. PA = ambient air pressure sensor. Units are in bar. The table values are pressure ratios (unitless).

I have read the tuning notes. But I can't quite make sense of the BIG picture.

In regards to Boost Control: referencing to the calibration provided in the FlashPro software

Do I control boost based off;
1. Air Charge Limits - Currently set between 230% (1.3 bar boost) to 200% (1.0 bar boost pressure)?
or
2. Turbo Max Ratio (PA) - Currently set between 3.33 to 3.70. Assuming I'm at sea level, can I assume that a PA of 3.33 is about 2.33 bar?

If my intention is to limit boost to about 1.5 bar at 6000rpm, should I set AirC % to 250, AND/OR Turbo Max Ratio (PA) to 2.5?
Appreciate the help!

1. And also how are AirC % & Turbo Max Ratio (PA) different ?
2. While I understand why I would limit Turbo Max Ratio (PA), I don't understand why would I want to limit to AirC%.

More AirC% would mean more power, if fueling is unlimited.

If you want to limit boost then either way will work, with some limitations.

If you use the air charge to limit cylinder filling then boost will limit too, but the air charge is cylinder filling so if the IAT is hot then the ECU will command more boost to get the same cylinder filling.

Likewise if you use the pressure ratio to limit boost then it will drop with elevation.

I'm not sure of your exact reason for limiting boost, but I would reduce air charge in 10% steps, dyno each step, and then make a composite limit table to get the right boost level.
