K24a EP3

Post by tlikethedrink »

I just finished my k24a swap in my 2005 EP3.

I’m currently running a:
Jdm k24a RBB-3
PLM Header with 2.5 out
2.5 Exhaust with a Vibrant Muffler
HPS intake (2.5 diameter i believe)
Stock RBB Intake Manifold with TB adapter
Stock 25* Cam gear
Stock 310cc injectors
Stock oil pump
Kpro v4

Currently running the TSX Base tune as I continue to clean up and zero in on minor non mechanical issues while breaking in the clutch.

I have questions regarding upgrades after break in or tuning as is…

1) I’m skeptical of the RBB intake to a3 TB and intake set up. I’m weighing out a Skunk 2 rep intake manifold ported and polished out. This would give me more hood clearance and open the door for 3-3.5 intake options. I would like to keep the factory TB functions so keep the stock TB if needed.

2) the RBC cam gear from the A3 is still laying around. I would like to run it with a new intake set up. OR should I wait for possibly cams in the future. I also have the PRB IM to use and port if needed.

Question is, is it worth it to do #1 without #2? Understanding they would be need to be tuned together. Also understanding that the exhaust is the new choke point.

I would love to hit 230 or even gasp 240 hp on pump. Similar set ups seem like a simple recipe of: RBC, 50*, 3.5 intake and 3” exhaust.

My goal is to spend (if I have to) a little extra to utilize kpro and the engine to its potential. Also to keep oe reliability.

All input welcome

Welcome to the forum,

If you plan to run an RBC intake or aftermarket the 50 degree VTC is needed to make sure you get the power from the intake. These intakes also shift the power band up as well.

Thanks for the reply and welcome!

I have the 50*, and will probably stock like a tb/im for later down the road.

For now, I’ve started running the 91 octane tsx map. Is there another map I can use to take more advantage of my bolt ons for now?

To take full advantage you would need a custom tune. For now I suggest you make sure the fuel and timing are dialed in on the calibration file you are using. The car will not run as well as it should.

Make sure the fuel trims are +-5 and reduce timing where you see knock.

Tune your fuel maps one by one (0.10.20.30.40.50) low-speed and high speed, and use the display fuel adjustement values (shift+f5) to get them close to 0%. Also to have good data to work with be gentle with the gas pedal and seek at least 20-30 samples to make adjustement.

I may have overstated my experience with tuning lol. I had kpro like 10 years ago and uploaded a JRSC tune to my k20a3.

That’s about the extent of my experience. This time around I’ve uploaded the tune, messed with the basic immobilizer and bad settings.

I would love to learn though. Anyone patient enough to coach?

I suggest you look at Evans tuning videos on youtube. He has many videos on kpro. You are also welcome to post your questions here and I can help you.

You can start with a stock k24 base map and adjust accordingly or try this one. viewtopic.php?t=25430

Remember no two cars are the same so adjustments will be needed.

Yes it will have an effect on the tune. Make sure to place close attention to your fuel.
