Fuel gauges on supercharged fn2 type r

Post by philjk »

Hi, I am new to the flash pro scene so please bare with.
I own a UK 2007 fn2 civic type r which has the TTS-super sport supercharger kit. I had this installed early October at TDI-North and all was fine but now the fuel gauge is acting up. It seems to stay on full for a long time then slowly works its way down to half then again sits there for a while. All of a sudden it then drops from half to empty.
I've read previous posts and I think I have an understanding of what's happening but I am just wondering if anyone has a solution.

My understanding right or wrong is,
On boosted fn2's the MAF sensor is disabled. Basically making it a race map. Along with having bigger injectors " 750 rc ". This now makes the average MPG, Miles remaining until next refill and Fuel gauge all work incorrectly.

I'm reading 50-60 average MPG and 580 miles left until refill when full.

I've spoken to tdi-north and they say this has been a problem since day one. But if I can find anything that can help they will include the calibration next time I tune.

The only thing I can find that may give a better reading " but not totally accurate " is to alter these two fields;
'injector flow for fuel economy' and 'injector flow for dash'.
I've read the most accurate setting for the 750rc injectors is to have both fields set on 700.
I've asked tdi if they'll email me an unlocked copy of my map so I can see what everything is set at currently.

Any advice will be much appreciated.
cheers

First, please read this thread completely:

If you use a Race Map (not longer supported by Hondata), then the inputs have no impacts.
The settings are only operate, if you use a AFM-based or Hybrid-based calibration.
If you post your calibration, i can find out, what calibration you are using.

Hi, it was the MAF sensor that gets disabled when boosting an FN2 type r. I spoke to the tuners today and they have said if we tried to tune using AFM calibration and with Map fuel tables the car will go into limp mode. They also said there is no other way that they know of to tune a supercharged type r without disabling the MAF sensor.
Doing this basically means it’s a race map. If anyone knows a way around the MAF sensor issue please post.

You do not need to use a race calibration as on a AFM calibration you can disable the AFM and then click on use speed/density tables. This will allow you to tune properly and retain the dash functions.

For clarification:

AFM/MAF-based map (supported):

Fuel display (supported):

(AFM/MAF-based maps are without MAP-Fuel tables.)

(Hybrid-based maps are with MAP-Fuel tables. In this case MAP-fuel tables are using above 515 mbar manifold air pressure depending on the load condition and below it uses MAF.)

MAP-based calibration (supported)

On a normally aspirated fn2 all the above work fine. The Hybrid setup looks like a viable solution, however it relies on the MAF sensor does it not? Which according to the tuners HAS to be disabled when running a Rotrex supercharger kit. When on boost the MAF sensor has issues forcing the fn2 into limp mode.

I am also using the TTS-Rotrex Kit on my FN2 and ive never had any problems.
Now i am using a Hybrid calibration on my rotrexed FN2 (AFM- and MAP-Sensor activated) and have no problems.

But it is necessary, that you tune both (AFM- and MAP-fuel-tables) to run perfect.

In my case, both sensors are activated, only the temp sensor wireing from the MAF-sensor is relocated to the boost pipe after the supercharger/intercooler and before the manifold.

Is there any chance you can upload your tune? I can then show the tuners and ask them to replicate it because they’re adamant it can’t be done.

A photo of the relocated wireing would also be a massive help. A big ask I know, but I’m at a loose end now. Thanks

No sorry, it was very much work and time to make it pefect to my car/engine!
But a good tuner should that know!

Again, post your cal and i can help you!

My cal is still held by the tuners. It is locked on the car. I don’t think it will be much use anyway as I haven’t even contemplated that rewire job. Without the relocation of the sensor it seems no tune is going to work.
I understand you not wanting to share your tune. A lot of effort has gone in to it. My tuners wanted to look at a map that worked and method of execution as they still say it can’t be done.
I’ll run this post passed them and show them the relocated wiring and sensor pics. Hopefully they will understand it fully and see it will work. But to be fair I imagine without a working map they’ll pass on it.
Cheers for the advice and link to the pics all the same

No, you don't need the IAT-relocation, so that the cal is working!

This is only a improved thing i made, because it is better to tune, if the IAT-temps are correct (after compressed supercharger air and temp, instead before supercharger and uncompressed air and temp).
