Yeah they look good. The one knock you had didn't record sadly. It happened before you started recording the datalog. Other than that though, it seems like everything is looking pretty good. Keep checking for knock, and if you see one let me know.

Hey EFICU!

I had 4 knocks today in some of these logs.

Also, when I install the down pipe and exhaust. Should I do more pulls and get you some info?

Yeah overall it looks really good. All of the knock happened in two areas, so that's nice. I made adjustments to those areas, we'll see how the next one looks.

Yes, when you install the DP and exhaust, we will want to run it through the cam angles so I can build you a cam angle map based on what your car likes. We would still use everything we've done here as a base, but we would run through each cam angle one by one to get the data needed to build a proper cam angle map for you.

This has been working great! Amazing job! Thank you.

Tomorrow I will install the motor mounts, down pipe, and exhaust.

Sounds good. Just verify for me that you want to run through the cam angles to build the cam angle mapping, then I can send you the first calibration to start that process. Otherwise we'll clean it up in the current form, but gathering data on each cam angle would be ideal.

What is the difference between going through them or not?

You need me to do pulls first?

Thanks,

Without going through each cam angle, there is no way to find out which cam angle your car likes and where. So for WOT, we would use the cam angle map from someone else's car and hope that it works well on your car. Not tuning each cam angle is like dyno tuning without a dyno if you will. When we tune each cam angle, I can see where the fuel demands are which tells me where the engine is making the most power. Then I can use that data to build a proper cam angle map, not to mention find the optimal vtec rpm. Without tuning each cam angle, vtec rpm is a guess too.

It's also fundamentally the proper way to tune someone's car. If you don't tune all cam angles, say your VTC system were to fail leaving you on the 0* cam angle. Say you're on a long road trip and this happens, with an untuned 0* cam angle your fueling can be all over the place and you may end up with a lot of knock. When you tune all cam angles, if this were to happen, the car would still run properly and the fuel and ignition is safe for you to get it home. If you want to do it this way, I would send you a calibration with it locked on the 0* cam angle and you would make your normal datalog with the third gear pull. Then we would move to the 15*, then the 30*, then the 40*. Once we have the data, we can blend it all out and have a polished tune based on what your car likes.

Ok, let's do it.

I finished installing everything today. I'm super sore.

Okay sounds good. Here is the first one, this will be on the 0* cam angle with vtec at 4500. Since we've already tuned the part throttle fuel stuff, you can make the datalog in the ten minute range and just be sure to get a clean third gear pull. That third gear pull is the main data sample we need, but no need to make twenty minute datalogs unless you want to, ten minutes is fine. The 0* cam is boring, so don't get discouraged.

Thanks.

I tried it this morning.

Here are some logs. The first two have pulls and are short. The other two I was trying to capture knock.

Overall it looks good for a start. Sadly, somehow all of the knock wasn't recorded, it happened while you weren't recording. The best thing to do is try to get one datalog with the third gear pull included instead of multiple datalogs. But if that's how you have to do them it's okay.

So we will now move to the 15* cam angle with vtec at 4500. Take this one for a drive when you can, again ten minutes is fine with the third gear pull. We'll keep checking for knock, the 0* cam didn't have much tuning from out old calibration, so we should see less knock if any now that we're moving up in cam angle.

Ok, here are some more logs.

The one ending with 50 has a pull, the others I was trying to capture the knock.

Yeah it looks pretty good. Only had knock in one datalog, but it looks like it happened while you weren't recording. We'll keep an eye on it though. We will now move to the 30* cam angle with vtec at 5500. Take this one for the same datalog and driving style.

Can you double check the datalogs, this one is still running on the 15* cam angle, not the 30* likes it's commanded. It looks like it might be an older datalog. Looking at the last datalog, it appears to be the "datalog50" from your last post. The datalogs are exactly the same.

Let me know.
