Hondata, Inc.
2840 Columbia St
Torrance, CA 90503

This is a Hondata modified 2002-2004 K series  ECU, plus Windows software and an adapter harness for the 03-06 MT Element. It is identical in function and price to the K-Pro for the 05/06 RSX-S

Hondata only sells the adapter harness with the modified ECU. An unmodified 02-04 ECU with adapter harness (with or without KPro) will not work on a 03-06 Element without the internal ECU modifications performed by Hondata.

Pricing

Price Description
$250 Upgrade an already K-Pro'd ecu for use in an 03-06 Element (includes adapter harness and ecu modification)
$845 K-Pro for 2003-2006 Element includes adapter harness.
$1445 K-Pro for 2003-2006 Element includes adapter harness (with new Honda ECU)

Hondata does not sell directly to customers. To order, fill out this form and contact a Hondata dealer. Turn around time is usually 2 days from the time the ECU is received by Hondata.

Application Notes

  • The primary oxygen sensor from the 02-04 RSX or 02-05 Civic Si part number 36531-PRB-A01 must be used.  The 03-06 Element O2 sensor will not work.
  • OBD2 must be disabled to eliminate errors generated by the ECU looking for emissions items that the 03-06 Element does not have.
  • The speed sensor spins about 100 times faster on the Element MT gearbox as compared to the 02-04 RSX. Above 65-70 MPH cruise control may not function smoothly and may cancel from time to time. Also see Tech - K20 Transmissions
  • Hondata makes hardware modifications to a donor 2002-2004 K series ECU (see below) to enable it to work with the different sensors and actuators found on the 2003-2006 Element. After these modifications the ECU will not function correctly on a 2002-2004 RSX.

Removing the ECU

This photo shows the mounting points of the ECU, which are very hard to see when installed in the car. The left lower bolt only needs to be loosened though.

Example tune

This Element had a RSX-S head swap with AEM short ram intake. Exhaust system was stock.

Power is equivalent to what you would expect from a mildly modified TSX. Midrange torque (4000-5000 rpm) is down from the stock Element due to the shorter RSX intake runners.

What ECU can I use?

Any of the following manual transmission ECUs. The CRV is the best choice as it has mounting brackets to fit the Element.

  • 20O2-2004 CRV ECU (32820-PPA-A01 through A05 ECU)
  • 2002-2004 RSX (Base 5 speed) (PND -A0# ECU)
  • 2002-2004 RSX (Type S) (PRB ECU)
  • 2002-2004 Japanese DC5 Integra Type R (PRC ECU)
  • 2003-2004 Japanese Civic Type R (PRD ECU)
  • 2002- Civic Si (PNF ECU)

The Element ECU

The Element ECU uses a different processor than the 02-04 K-Pro ECU. There will be no K-Pro for the Element ECU, so the use of the 02-04 RSX ECU and adapter is the only option.
