Warranty work with Hondata reflash

Post by Amun Re »

Just bought an 04 RSX Type S. I would like to get the Hondata reflash but am a little worried about it voiding the warranty. Has anyone had to take their car in for warranty work with the hondata reflash or how did you deal with it?

If you are in the US. You can get it from an Acura dealer and not worry about warranties since it is dealer installed.

Warranty with reflash

Post by Hondata »

By Federal Law you should be covered for any problems with the vehicle except that caused by any aftermarket parts or modifications which you have made to the vehicle. Dealers cannot refuse warranty work just because you have changed something. So after a re-flash you would be covered if the A/C failed, or anything else like that, but (in theory) would not be covered if the engine drops a valve from revving past the factory rev limiter. Items such as transmission damage with a supercharged engine are in a grey area (as the dealer can argue that the extra power contributed to the transmission failure). In practice we have seen Honda & Acura dealers cover everything except engine damage from an over-rev condition, which is always caused by a miss-shift as far as we know. We have not heard of any dealer denying a warranty claim because of the presence of a Hondata re-flash. The Hondata re-flash is difficult to detect.

wait and get the the programmable ecu - that way if you run into a real issue (like a blown motor) you can simply program the ecu back to stock & take off the mods off and they will never ever know unless you amit to it..........
