Enabling OBD catalyst monitor on FK8?

Post by pcdangio »

I'm having an issue trying to get the OBD catalyst monitor up and running through flashpro, and was wondering if anybody here had any ideas. All other OBD monitors are operational and running just fine. I did some research and found the proper settings to use to make sure the monitor is enabled. However, when I click "save" on the calibration, a bunch of the required checkboxes automatically uncheck themselves. I'm assuming there's a conflicting setting (or mod) somewhere in the calibration that is causing this behavior. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks so much!

The settings I'm trying to use (highlighted in red)

And here's the checkboxes that automatically uncheck when I hit "save".

Are you using any Mods?

I can confirm that it is a bug. Some checkboxes disappear and others appear spontaneously after saving. Anyone can reproduce very easily.

I set this

And after save I got this

Screenshot 2022-12-30 at 16.04.11.png (13.5 KiB) Viewed 2372 times

Car is Civic Type R 2017, Eu version.

For me the solution was to remove all the checkboxes.

Another bug that can be related is the following: I create a calibration for FK8 2017 and after saving and reopening it is seen as for FK8 2018.

I've made a video showing both bugs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmisThjGfCU

@pcdangio I think a workaround is to upload the file directly on the flashpro/ecu without saving or reopening it.

That is not the same as you posting the actual calibration you are using.

I hope it helps

This is the file created in the video above. The calibration is a standard Civic Type R FK8 US 2017, factory settings with all checkboxes in Closed Loop unchecked.

If I were to send the file to someone who has a catle ss downpipe, they would receive the P0420 error.

Also, when the file is reopened, it is seen as for FK8 2018

You have the mod for disabling the secondary o2 sensor enabled.

Thanks for all the investigation and feedback so far guys!

On Flashpro 4.0.3, I tried creating a new base map with the "disable secondary o2 sensor" mod enabled. This unchecks the relevant boxes in the Closed Loop tab, and also unchecks the relevant DTCs. I then just went into the Closed Loop tab and checked all the necessary boxes. This automatically changed the following:

1. Appropriate DTCs were checked
2. "disable secondary o2 sensor" mod was automatically unchecked

So it looks like you can override everything just by checking the appropriate boxes in the Closed Loop tab. I tried saving this and re-opening it and the changes persisted. So it's not a problem with mods being enabled/disabled.

I did some searching and it does seem like this is an occasional bug, where changing settings in the DTC tab get reverted when you click save. As Rares pointed out, there's a video (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ee3lebE0a28) showing the same behavior

The mods change the calibration. What you have seen is the expected behaviour.

I think there is both expected and unexpected behavior here:

Expected Behavior:
  • Enabling/disabling a mod in the mod window automatically checks/unchecks the expected options across the calibration tabs
  • Checking/unchecking boxes in the calibration tabs automatically checks/unchecks the relevant mods in the mods window
Unexpected Behavior:
  • Sometimes, clicking save automatically REVERTS changes, and does so without providing any notification to the user. If you close the software, reopen the file, redo the same changes, and click save again, the changes stay and are saved properly. I again refer people to this video showing this issue: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ee3lebE0a28. If this video is expected behavior, an explanation of why would be super helpful.
The big difference is that: I would expect that me actively making a change to a setting would cause automatic updates across the calibration. I would not expect that simply clicking "save" would undo some of the changes I've made (and it seems to do this sporadically, and is not repeatable).

Update: I've found a way to reproduce part of my specific problem that shows the bug. Please try it yourself to see the behavior.
  1. Create a brand new, stock calibration for a 2017 Civic Type R, and leave all mods as the default settings.
  2. Save the completely stock calibration file.
  3. Now go to the DTCs window under the Misc tab in the calibration.
  4. Uncheck P0131, P0132, P0133, P0134.
  5. Click save. Notice that P0131-P0134 stay unchecked as expected.
  6. Now re-check P0131, P0132, P0133, P0134.
  7. Click save. You will see that as soon as you click save, P0131-P0134 automatically uncheck!!
  8. P0131-P0134 are now PERMANENTLY disabled... nothing I try will allow me to re-enable them.
So in this case, I've used a completely stock calibration. "disable secondary o2 sensor" mod was never enabled, and no changes were made on the closed loop tab. When I disabled P0131-P0134 and clicked save, no automatic changes were made to the mods list or to the closed loop tab.

So it seems like the problem isn't at all related to what mods you have enabled/disabled.

I've attached my test calibration file (dc3.fpcal), which now has P0131-P0134 permanently disabled in it for some reason.

Has anybody from the Hondata team been able to try this out yet?
