CAT over temp bug
CAT over temp bug
Hi guys,
I've been having an issue with my car on the dyno and I'm hoping that I might be able to request some action if there isn't a fix already.
While on the dyno, we completed 3-4 runs with no changes. For the first 3 runs the mixture was a repeatable and constant 0.81-0.82 Lambda.
On the 4th run, with no changes to the tune, the mixture dropped to 0.75-0.76 lambda for the last 1000 rpm of the run. I can get the same result on the road if I do back-to-back acceleration runs.
I believe that Hondata have confirmed this as possible activity of the CAT protection mode, but it's very frustrating whilst racing and would appreciate it if you could give me some kind of response as to what can be done to help the issue.

Please excuse me the more knowledgable amoung you, but I'll attempt to give a rough understanding as I see it.
When the exhaust temp gets to a certain level, the ECU assumes that these high temperatures would damage the catalytic converter in the car and so it will "tip in" extra fuel to help cool the exhaust temp and in turn cool the catalytic converter.
Of course this is great for the cat, but when you don't run a cat as I don't all it does it loses power and causes the tune to move from where it's expected to be.
Thanks for letting me know that you've added it to the development list........ good to know it's likely to get sorted sometime in the future.

Any news on fixing this feature guys ???
It's been a fair while now, but haven't heard anything and the back of my car is regularly getting covered in waaaaaaay too much unburnt fuel because of this issue and being a supercharged car we don't want to take any risks tuning that fuel out to fix that issue and then have it running too lean at other times.....
Please Please Please........ can you fix it for us ?

Hondata: Once ECU gets into "WOT CAT Protection Mode", how would ECU get out of that?
Would switched off the engine, and restarting do the trick?
Any idea?

Re: CAT over temp bug
Probably when the ECU calculates that the cat temperature has dropped - basically when the engine load is reduced for a certain time period.
