Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
Hey guys,
Currently own a 94 Honda civic with a s300 and plan to purchase the traction control system. Unfortunately however I do not have a abs system standard in my car.
I currently have the dss level 2.9 series front drive shafts. Can I retrofit the dc2 front abs sensors to my existing knuckles and change my rear trailing arms to dc2 units ? Could anyone post up some photos as to what the sensors / arms & mounting points look like ?
Thanks :)
Ps- alter the system so you can you the factory VSS (in gear box) vs rear wheel sensors !!! That way is it possible to ditch the front wheel speed sensors ?!

Re: Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
Is this effected by the amount of teeth on the driveshaft that the sensors pickup? Will it be a problem with dc2 sensors and DSS shafts suit d16 ?
Re: Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
You will have to check with Drive Shaft Shop to see if their axles will work with OEM ABS sensors.
IT is not possible to only use the VSS. You must have individual wheel speed sensors.

Re: Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
Yes but more to the point are the abs sensors teeth specific?
Re: Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
The number of pulses does not matter as long as they are the same for each pair of wheels front or rear.
Re: Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
I need help understanding this. I have dss 5.9 without abs rings. Will I need to purchase the ring gears and get them installed on the axle? How does the rear sensor get the trigger(wheelstud?) Can I someone how use the stock vss instead of running front abs sensors?
Re: Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
The transmission vss cannot be used as it does not have the resolution (only 4 pulses per revolution vs 50 for abs) necessary for traction control.

You must have individual wheel sensors on all wheels. You cannot use the VSS.
Re: Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
since i'm only using it from drag racing will just need 2? 1 front and one rear? Guessing I will have to call DSS to get a abs ring?
Re: Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
Two front and one rear. The fronts tend to alternate wheelspin from side to side, so one sensor doesn't work very well.

So I will need a abs ring on my DSS 5.9? or is there another way to get the trigger?Hondata wrote:Two front and one rear. The fronts tend to alternate wheelspin from side to side, so one sensor doesn't work very well.
Re: Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
Your exhaustive list of options are two front ABS sensors with axle rings and at least one rear ABS sensor.

thank you sir for answering my questions.Hondata wrote:Your exhaustive list of options are two front ABS sensors with axle rings and at least one rear ABS sensor.

So as long as rear teeth match each other & Front teeth match each other it won't be a problem?
Re: Traction control - retrofitting abs sensors
Correction: The number of teeth front and rear do not need to match.
