Which IAT sensor for FN2 can be used?

Post by typer86 »

Hi Hondata,

the TTS S/C kit use the default MAF sensor to determine the IAT - which the compensation is total incorrect because the sensor is not relocated.
Major problem:
Currently the intercooled air will not be measured.

Air flow steps:
1. Airbox with MAF (IAT) sensor
2. TB >
3. Rotrex Supercharger >
4. intercooler > manifold >
5. Engine

Which IAT sensor can we use for the FN2?
#1: OBD1 or OBD2 IAT sensors?
#2: Which type of IAT will be used (NTC : Negativer Temperature Coeffizient?)

We will modify the intake hose so a screw sensor would be nice. Can we use this one?

Either the OBDI B-Series or OBDII Integra/RSX/CRV sensor can be used. Anything else has different coefficients than Honda, and will give inaccurate readings.

Thanks!

Is it also possible to purchase matching connector (plug) with contacts for the OEM-sensor?
If so, where and what part numbers?

Hondata,

quote from your help section in Hondata Flashpro Manager about the relocation of the IAT with separate IAT-Sensor from the AFM-Sensor:

"When using a MAP based calibration the AFM is no longer used to measure air flow, but the air temperature part of the AFM is required by the ECU. It is possible to replace the AFM with an IAT sensor to remove the AFM restriction from the air flow, or to relocate the IAT sensor when it can sense the air temperature more effectively."

and

"Wiring the sensor

We are going to splice the IAT sensor wiring into the AFM wiring. The advantage of splicing the wiring in this way is that it is possible to return the car to AFM use by unplugging the IAT and plugging the AFM back in. You should only have either the IAT or the AFM plugged in, otherwise the ECU will not read the air temperature correctly. You may wish to cover the AFM plug to prevent dirt or water from entering the connector.

On the AFM connector remove the tape and identify the IAT wires. They are both at one end of the connector and are red/yellow and green/black. Strip the insulation back and solder the IAT wiring on. The polarity of the wires is not important - each IAT wire can go either to the red/yellow or green/black wire."

In this context, is it right, that the AFM range in AFM-sensor is no longer available, if we relocate the IAT with separate IAT-Sensor?
We currently use a Rotrex supercharger with a hybrid map (AFM/MAP) and MAP fuel tables!

The AFM range are then continue to function?

Anything else:
Could you inform me what is the pinout of of AFM-sensor of the FN2?
So I know how I have to split the sensor to an external IAT sensor with the IAT-Pins!

MAF/IAT wiring:

1 red/blk AFM+
2 blk/blu AFM-
3 blk/yel AFM power
4 grn/blk SG2
5 red/yel IAT

So pins 4 & 5 are for the IAT.

Ok, thank you!

A question:
If we use the Pin 1-3 for the AFM-sensor and lay this sensor in place, well we relocate only the IAT-range (Pin 4 & 5) with a another IAT-sensor to another place, is the function of the AFM-sensor (Pin 1-3) furthermore available (AFM-processing)?

We would like to continue with this action using a hybrid Calibration (AFM / MAP), therefore this question!

That was an additional question before!

If we cut the Pins 4 & 5 for another IAT-sensor is it necessary to braze a resistance in, like this (example):

65ec7af5-084b-4dbe-8b75-558b98fc5c5c.jpg (39.32 KiB) Viewed 10254 times
And if so, which resistance value we need to use?

For the IAT-Sensor (after the intercooler) is this a good place for it?:

No, you don't want to replace the IAT with a resistor. What you need to do is to extend the wires in the AFM connector to a new IAT location.
That manifold design is why your lambda is not consistent - I can't imagine how much cross cylinder contamination and reverse flow there must be without any manifold runners and the square shape.

Now, i have relocated the IAT from die MAF-plug with a new IAT-Sensor after the compressed air from the supercharger, to read correctly.

This is my selfmade wiring harness for the relocation of the IAT-sensor (with OEM plugs for MAF and IAT):

Hi there,

I know this is an old post, but does anyone know where I can get the Honda connectors to make up a "piggy back" loom like this? I'm ditching the MAF sensor on the K20 engine in an Ariel Atom and switching to a 4 bar MAP sensor and Honda IAT sensor. I've called a Honda dealer here in the UK and they will only sell looms, not individual connectors.

Many thanks for any help!
